I think part of the reason Jesus tells us to love our enemies is so that we’re reminded to love everyone — even the people whom we should love the most, but their behavior sometimes we get the most irritated or upset or bent out of shape about. It’s a gentle but uncompromising call to repentence, even if you don’t have any enemies you can think of that need loving right now, because you have people in your life that still need to be loved, and you may have been treating them like enemies when you shouldn’t. (Just a thought inspired by today’s intercession at Midday Prayer….)

Lord Jesus, help me to love my enemies. Amen.
